The Hollywood Beach
Broadwalk in Hollywood, Florida offers a ~2.6 mile
view of palm-tree laden white sand beach without the
40-story buildings and heavy traffic of its surrounding
neighbors. The Hollywood Beach Broadwalk was named
one of the top ten nostalgic promenades by USA Today
and is ideal for walking, biking, or rollerblading
and rentals are available if you don't bring your own
wheels. A separate
bike path gives bikers a mostly interrupted ride with
the exception of the occasional walker who strays
from the bricklined pedestrian walkway and doesn't realize
the white sidewalk is a bike path. Joggers might
prefer running in the morning when the crowds are
lighter. Beach facilities include restrooms and
outdoor showers. Hollywood Beach safety
includes twenty-one lifeguard towers, eight first-aid
stations, lanterns and colored lights for safe night
walking. Numerous inexpensive beachfront restaurants
and hotels are
available so a Hollywood Beach
vacation can be very economical. Built in
the 1920s, the broadwalk area is undergoing a
continuing renovation. Hollywood Beach offers a
park for the kids and courts for playing paddleball.
As well, there are periodic concerts (every 2nd and 4th
Friday night at 7PM), volleyball
tournaments, festivals and fireworks on July
4th. At the far north side of the Broadwalk are
a sea turtle hatchery and picnic facilities. Every
Sunday Josh's Organic Garden is open from 9AM to 5:30PM at
Harrison Street and every fourth Friday is Classic Cruise
Night. Fort Lauderdale Beach is approximately seven
miles to the north while Miami / South Beach is
approximately fifteen miles to
the south.
